Spotlight on Liam

This month the spotlight is on the youngest member of the CFP team, Liam Bomby Order Processing and Dispatch Administrator. Liam started with CFP in May last year as an apprentice in the admin department. We asked Liam all about his role at CFP and his highlights over the last 18 months.

What did you do prior to working at CFP?

Following College I trained with the Police, I originally wanted to work in the Specials but decided that it wasn’t the right career choice for me. I then took a customer service job at Tesco and found I really enjoyed getting to know the customers and helping them. I liked the hands on aspect of the role and dealing with customers face to face, it certainly kept me on my toes!

How did you get on to the apprenticeship scheme?

I was registered on an apprenticeship website www.apprenticeships.gov.uk and was looking for customer service/admin roles in general when I saw the advertisement for an admin apprentice at CFP. I wasn’t sure if it would be entirely right for me as I’ve always been pretty hands on and thought it may be more of a ‘desk job’. How wrong was I!

How did your apprenticeship work?

I worked full time at CFP and then went to college one afternoon a month to sit exams. I’d study in my own time and obviously use the work experience I’d gained from CFP to back up my studies. It was hard going but I learnt so much and found it really interesting. Tony the Managing Director was really supportive and the rest of the team were very patient and answered any questions I asked. My role then is quite different to what it is now and I feel like I’ve really grown and made the job my own.

What’s the most fulfilling part of your job?

It’s totally different to what I thought it would be, I’m not sat behind a desk all the time and there’s always something different to do. The most fulfilling part has to be dealing with customers, I really enjoy customer service and get a great deal of satisfaction knowing that I’ve made someone else’s job a little bit easier. My knowledge has also grown so much, not just about admin and the business world but about the different filters and services we provide and the difference our filters make to public spaces, hospitals, research labs and more.

What’s a typical day for you?

It’s so hard to say, as every day something different happens. My day however always involves: working on dispatch, making sure everything has been sent from the warehouse and the customer is aware the delivery is on the way; invoicing; placing orders on the system; and working on quotes for customers. I also have a status update with my line manager Zoë most days to keep her up to date with my work. And then of course dealing with any curve balls that come my way!

What do you like to do outside of work?

I think I’m a typical 22 year old really, I can be seen in the gym most nights lifting weights, I like to play and watch football – I’m a really big Manchester City fan - and I like going out at the weekend.
